Representing nearly 30% of global sales, the Chinese market is by far the largest in the World.

Over 1.000 models are sold in the country with a sales spread among several models and a low concentration among the top models, with the best-seller market share just above the 2%.

Looking at the passenger cars’ ranking in January 2023, the BYD SONG becomes the new leader, rising 15 spots with 35,585 new sales (+58.5%). This is one of the only two models in the top 10 to report a growth in the month of January.

In second ranks  the Volkswagen Lavida, maintaining second position with 26,917 sales and a 40.9% decrease from the prior year.

Last year’s leader The Nissan Sylphy  falls into 3rd place with 23,507 sales, a 61.6% year-on-year loss.

The Changan CS75 jumps into 4th place with 21,620 sales (-35.6%), followed by the Volkswagen Sagitar  with 20,454 (-22.3%), the BYD Dolphin -up 56 spots- with 17,582 sales (+65.8%) and the BMW 5 series in 7th place with 17,556 sales (-32.2%)

The Haval H6 falls 4 spots into 8th position with 16,663 registrations (-53.2%), followed by the Wuling Hongguang Mini EV down 6 spots in 9th with 16,416 units sold (-55.7%) and the Mercedes E Class -up 23 spots- closing the Top 10 with 15,321 new sales (-9.4%).
